Another (slightly longer) short, plus news

It’s been a little while since I last posted; I blame it on the length of this short :) It actually made the distance to some kind of short story guideline (every source claims differing lengths make up a short story, but Wikipedia says no less than 1,000 and no more than 20,000.) Hooray, it’s more than 1,000 words :)

It’s a story about, well … I’m not entirely too sure what it’s about. With everyone that’s asked, it hasn’t been any easier to explain. This short is about two people. I give up explaining after that :P I like it, and I hope you do too.

Since it’s been a while since I’ve posted, I will also add in some news: the Kung Fu Academy I train at has asked me whether I want to travel the length of China and Vietnam, performing/demonstrating as well as learning (part of which is in the Shaolin Temple with the monks—something I have wanted to do since I knew about the temple of Shaolin’s existence.)

Being asked itself was a surprise and a privilege (all the others asked have been at the Academy for years, compared to my three months) but I am at a crossroads whether to “tag along” or not. Not because I don’t want to—it’s a fabulous opportunity, the only problem is I would be on unpaid leave (I wouldn’t have accrued enough annual leave by the departure date) and I would be gone for a month. On the financial side, I’m not sure I can afford to pay off the car, go on holiday at the end of this year, and jet off again two or three months later for this trip (it’s not free, it’s only subsidised—the Academy is small, it was the best they could do.) On the time side, I am usually not allowed to go for so long (there’s nobody else who can do my job, so they are usually in a pinch if I go longer than a couple of weeks.) That, and I᾿d be separated from my other half—which would be hard for me.

Anyway, I’ll go have a think about that one, and make a decision at some stage. You can go read social exercises for modern relationships :)

Postscript: If you need it, there’s a glossary of terms at the end.

Post-postscript: this short was written over the past two weeks in competition with my Boss—a story-con-carné writeoff if you will. Once I get it, I will upload hers here also :P Maybe have a poll?

Well I thought that was lovely :) I liked the differing POV's. I liked the Perspex line too. The line with the Windsor was a tad odd though, seemed to stick out heaps wrt the rest of the story, perhaps that was your aim?

Ahh thank you, I’m glad you like it :)

Yeah, I had my eye on the Windsor line, I wasn’t entirely sure about it, but I needed it to demonstrate the ‘Salarymen’ of Japan: those on salaries who wear a suit six days a week, work very long hours, and seem like they can’t enjoy themselves.

I wanted to express that in some way, though I wonder now whether I should give that line another looking at :)
